Re-watching "LA VIE EN ROSE" over the weekend reminded me of just how chic Marion Cotillard is in the film. The way she portrays the outspoken Edith Piaf from age 17 to her death is just remarkable – and she looks incredibly stylish throughout. She’s introduced with a short and messy Comme des Garçons-esque bob, and we fall in love with young Edith right away. Despite the drinking problems, erratic behavior, and rough-around-the-edges exterior, there is still something beautiful and endearing about this character. Edith has undeniably good intentions, which emerge from the bare innocence of a childhood spent in poverty. The film's writer and director, Oliver Dahan, develops this point to perfection. If Marion Cotillard's wide-eyed, crooked-smiled Edith Piaf is not inspiration-worthy, then i don't know what is.
